Apple: Apple will soon help users to fix billing issues without leaving the app, here’s how – Times of India

Apple is set to make new improvements to the in-app subscription process for iPhone and iPad users. Currently, users have to access their Apple ID settings to manage app subscription payment failures. The Cupertino-based tech giant has recently updated its developer website to announce that this process is going to change. Apple has noted that if a subscription renewal fails, users will be able to resolve billing issues directly in the app. The company has mentioned that starting this summer, whenever users face a problem with auto-renewable app subscriptions due to billing issues, users will soon get a prompt directly in that app to update their payment method.
How will it work
The pop-up message that will appear for users in case of any app subscription payment failure, will be provided by the system. The alert will ask users to update their payment method for their Apple ID.
Apple explains: “Soon it will be easier than ever for your customers to resolve payment issues, so they can stay subscribed to your content, services, and premium features.”
The company mentioned, “Starting this summer if an auto-renewable subscription doesn’t renew due to a billing issue, a system-provided sheet appears in your app with a prompt that lets customers update their payment method for their Apple ID.”

For developers, Apple stated that “No action is required to adopt this feature.” Starting April 19, app developers “can get familiar with the sheet in Sandbox,” and “can also test delaying or suppressing it using messages and display in StoreKit.”
“This feature will require a minimum of iOS 16.4 or iPadOS 16.4,” the company noted.
Importance of this feature
This change will not only simplify the process for customers but will also help developers to ease the app subscription renewal process. The company also added that this change will even reduce the number of lapsed subscriptions.
