Apple details how its first dual USB-C charger works – Times of India
Earlier this month, when Apple launched its all-new MacBook Air and MacBook Pro, it also unveiled a new charger. The 35W dual port USB charger is the first of its kind from Apple. A dual port charger means it can charge two devices simultaneously. But how much power does it give to the devices its charging? Apple has uploaded a support document that details how the charger will work.
How will it charge two devices at the same time?
Apple explains that when you connect two devices, power is automatically distributed between them based on their power requirements. The two devices need to be connected to either port on the owner adapter. Apple says that for most devices, power is shared evenly when you have two devices charging at the same time. The company further explains it with the following examples:
  • If you connect a Mac notebook and an iPhone or iPad, each device receives up to 17.5W.
  • If you connect an iPhone and an iPad, each device receives up to 17.5W.
  • If you connect a Mac notebook or iPhone and an Apple Watch or AirPods, the Mac notebook or iPhone receives up to 27.5W and the Apple Watch or AirPods receive up to 7.5W.

In case a user feels that either either device needs more power, unplug the other device and its charging cable from your power adapter. Apple recommends using it with MacBook Air. However, users can also use it with iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch and AirPods.
The dual USB-C port charger costs Rs 5,800 and is now available for pre-orders. Do keep in mind that the charging cable is not sold with the adapter and you will have to buy it separately, in case you don’t have it.
