Apple employees are reportedly using “AppleGPT” at work – Times of India
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in his Power On column, Apple uses an in-house chatbot to assist its staff in creating prototypes of upcoming features, summarising text, and providing answers based on the data it has been taught.
Despite the greater number of Apple employees who can now use the chatbot, access to the chatbot still requires approval.
Gurman notes that the iPhone maker has not yet decided how to use its Apple GPT chatbot project on the customer-facing side. However, according to Gurman, Apple is considering using generative AI to enhance its internal chatbot services. One potential use is to provide the tool to AppleCare support staff to assist customers with issues more effectively.
AppleGPT uses an in-house language model, AJAX, which is built on the JAX framework created by Google. Sources say that Apple’s generative AI chatbot operates similarly to chatbots like Bard, ChatGPT, and Bing AI. It can summarise the text and answer questions based on the data it has been fed.
It may take some time before we see the full potential of chatbots, as Apple is aware of GPT’s tendency to make mistakes. Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, acknowledged this during a May earnings call and stated that various issues need to be addressed when it comes to AI.
According to reports, Apple is likely to proceed with caution in their AI plans, unlike other companies like Google and Microsoft, who are in a rush to integrate generative AI into their products. Despite this, sources said that a significant announcement related to AI is expected next year.
