Apple: Google, Apple, Paytm called to discuss rising cyber crimes in India – Times of India
According to a report by news agency PTI, representatives of technology companies, including Apple, Flipkart and One97 Communications (Paytm) have been called on July 4 to discuss issues related to cyber security.
The committee, headed by BJP’s Jayant Sinha, has also called representatives from several banks, such as the Punjab National Bank, Bank of India, Yes Bank and Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) to take oral evidence on “cyber security and rising incidence of cyber/white collar crimes”.Meeting to discuss cybersecurity
The report said that the issue of cyber security and the rising incidence of cyber crimes was a central discussion at a meeting of the panel that was held earlier this month.
At the meeting, experts from the industry were quizzed by lawmakers about various facets of unlawful activities, including fraud loan applications.
Present at the meeting were firms, including Chase India, Razorpay, PhonePe, CRED and QNu Labs as well as Nasscom, the trade body and chamber of commerce of the tech industry in the country. The meeting also discussed the issue of fraudulent lending apps.
Ban on fraud apps
Earlier this year, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) issued orders to block 232 apps, which included 138 betting and gambling websites and 94 loan apps. These platforms were reported to be engaged in money laundering and posed a threat to the financial security of the country.
The apps included LazyPay and Kissht while the platforms in the blocked list were buddyloan.com, cashtm.in, kreditbee.en.aptoide.com, faircent.com, true-balance.en.uptodown.com, and mpokket.en.aptoide.com. The government later removed the ban from LazyPay and Kissht lending apps.
