Apple iPhone 14: This may be the starting price of iPhone 14 and why it is good news for buyers in India as well – Times of India

Apple iPhone 14 is just weeks away now. The Cupertino giant is likely to launch the 2022 models of iPhone, likely to be called iPhone 14 series, in September. There have been speculations that the upcoming iPhone 14 series may come with a higher price tag than the iPhone 13 series.
However, a new report has good news for iPhone buyers. As per a user yeux1122 on the Korean blog Naver (via MacRumors), Apple iPhone 14 base model will start at $799, the same entry price as last year’s iPhone 13. According to the post, the reason Apple will not increase the price of its upcoming entry-level flagship device is to boost sales and offset declining demand amid the global smartphone market slowdown. The source of the information is said to be an unnamed “major US financial institution” with a track record for accuracy.

The post further claims that the decision to impose a price freeze on iPhone 14 model in 2022 has been made “at the top executive level.” This despite the company facing increased production costs and continued supply chain disruptions.
If the news turns out to be true then this will be the third year in a row that Apple will not increase the price of new iPhones. The iPhone 12 launched in 2020 starting price tag of $799, iPhone 13 too retained the same price. However, it is not clear from the post if Apple will retain the 2021 iPhone 13 series prices across its iPhone 14 series models, or it will be only for iPhone 14 base model.

Why it may also be good news for iPhone 14 buyers in India
Apple retaining the price of iPhone 13 for iPhone 14 series may also be good news for iPhone 14 buyers in India. For, this may mean that Apple will retain the pricing of iPhone 13 for iPhone 14 in India too. What makes this look plausible is that Apple has not raised the iPhone prices in India too since the last two years, same as in the US. So, it is likely that this year too if it maintains the 2021 price in the US for iPhone 14 series, the company may follow the same strategy in India as well. In India, the price of iPhone 13 starts at Rs 79,999.
Interestingly, the post has no mention of the iPhone Mini model, which is the entry-level device in both iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 series. The US price of iPhone 13 mini starts at $699.
