Apple iPhone 15 could come with titanium chassis and curved rear edges: Report | Digit

Although the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max are not available in the market, rumours about the iPhone 15 series are surfacing every day. Previously, reports have suggested that only the Pro models in the iPhone 15 series will come with a new chipset, whereas the non-Pro iPhone 15 models will feature an old chipset. Now, a new piece of information suggests that the iPhone 15 will feature a titanium chassis with curved rear edges.

For years, Apple has made iPhones with flat edges

For those who are catching up, the iPhone 12 was the first smartphone to come with flat edges after Apple produced several iPhone models with curved edges. However, since 2020, all the iPhone models have had flat edges. However, that could change with the iPhone 15 series, which will still feature a rear glass panel, albeit with curved rear edges, similar to the bottom edges on Apple’s MacBook Pro models, as per MacRumors.

Earlier this year, rumours related to the iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max claimed that the models would feature a titanium casing. However, none of the iPhone 14 models in the market feature a titanium chassis. The publication also mentions that the Cupertino-based tech giant is exploring the use cases of titanium alloy chassis for future iPads, MacBooks and iPhones.

Interestingly, Apple already uses titanium casing in its products, one of which is the Apple Watch Ultra. Additionally, the physical Apple Card is also made of titanium. The reason behind the shift from aluminium and stainless steel to titanium for Apple products could be titanium’s hardness and durability. If the report is true, it will be the first time Apple uses titanium on any of its iPhones and iPads.
