Apple Macbook Air 15 Review: Apple MacBook Air 15 (2023) review: The magic of the big screen
The design is exactly the same as the 13-inch MacBook Air, which is not a surprise at all as Apple refreshed it just last year. One of my slight worry is whether the 15-inch Air could fit in backpacks where the 13-inch easily slotted in. The backpacks do feel slightly heavy but the 15-inch MacBook Air did fit in a couple of them with real ease.
One of the design elements that Apple has changed is with the speakers of the MacBook Air. The speakers are actually hidden — unlike the side of the keyboard — which gives the laptop more real estate in terms of keyboard and trackpad.
Rest of the elements are pretty much the same. The ports and their placement is identical to the 13-inch model, which means you get two Thunderbolt and one MagSafe on the left side whereas the right side has the headphone jack.
Ever since the M1 MacBook Air, Apple has kept a fanless design and it still continues with that. And we still continue to be impressed by it as this is a noise-free laptop that doesn’t heat up. In that sense, it is a “true” laptop as you can keep it on your lap for hours and it doesn’t feel uncomfortable at all. Something that can’t be said about any other laptop.
The 15-inch display is actually a 15.3-inch one and retains the notch. The notch is something that is just there. If you have used any MacBook Pro with a notch or the 13-inch M2 MacBook Air, then you would know that it’s not bothersome. It’s not useful either but it’s just one of those things that are there and you know that Apple will end up utilising it sooner than later. A FaceID would be nice, no?
The display is not as good as the MacBook Pro models as they have a mini-LED display. Apple has used the same Liquid Retina display which most users would be familiar with. And it’s nothing to scoff at because watching content is quite a delight. The colours are crisp and bright and contrast levels are on point as well. The ambient light colour adjustment because of True Tone still works like a charm. The display offers up to 500 nits of brightness and support for 1 billion colours. Apple claims that it has twice the resolution and 25 per cent brighter than a comparable PC laptop. While it’s hard to legitimise those claims, what we will say that it is an extremely good display to work on.
Those who have missed having a big screen on the MacBook Air would relish the whole content experience on the 15-inch MacBook Air.
