Apple may soon allow Android users to use AirTag – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Apple entered the Bluetooth tracker market recently with the launch of AirTags. Presently, Apple AirTag is compatible only with iOS, but soon Android users will also be able to use the Bluetooth tracker. As per an online report, Apple might soon launch an Android app for AirTag.
According to a report by CNET, Apple is soon expected to launch an Android app for AirTag which will enable Android users to use the Bluetooth tracker and find their lost items. The report adds that the company will reveal more details about the Android app by the end of this year.
Along with this, CNET also reports that the Cupertino-based tech giant has rolled out a new firmware update for AirTag. The new update changes the way AirTag alerts passersby about a lost item in their vicinity. Along with this, the update is also changing the time window for when the Bluetooth Tracker will make a sound to alert users about a lost tracker.
Earlier, Apple AirTag trackers would only emit a sound after three days of being lost. With this feature Apple wanted to prevent users from being tracked with the help of AirTag without their knowledge. However after the update, the lost AirTag will play a noise within the time window of 8 to 24 hours. Apple said that this change in the time window will “discourage unwanted tracking”.
The report also adds that if somebody finds an unwanted AirTag then the person will also be able to tap it with an iPhone or any NFC-enabled device and get instructions to disable its tracking.
