Apple Mixed Reality Headset Roundup: Launch timeline, exciting features, expected price & more – Smartprix

In less than 2 months, Cupertino-based tech giant Apple is about to enter a brand new product category, when the brand will launch its first-ever Mixed Reality Headset. The AR/VR Headset has been in the news for a while now and the latest news that’s coming in claims that Apple might showcase this innovation during the WWDC 2023.

With Apple’s products like iPhones, iPads, Apple Watch and more becoming success stories, the mixed reality headset might also join the league in the future. Let us have a look at some of the exciting features that are expected.

Note- All these features are expected and not confirmed.

1. 4K Micro OLED displays

Apple is reportedly planning to use two high-resolution 4K micro OLED displays from Sony that will have up to 3000 pixels per inch. These displays will give a thinner, smaller, and lighter display that will be power efficient as compared to LCDs and other alternatives.

2. Integrated Cameras

The Mixed Reality headset will come with more than a dozen cameras that will capture motion to translate real-world movement to virtual movement. The cameras will also be able to map the environment, detecting surfaces, edges, and dimensions in rooms with accuracy as well as other people and objects.

3. Iris Scanning

An integrated iris scanner is expected that will evaluate the pattern of the user’s eye, allowing for an iris scan to be used for payment authentication as a password replacement.

4. Facial Expression Tracking

The cameras in this headset will be able to interpret facial expressions, translating them into virtual avatars. This is similar to how a True Depth camera system works with Memoji and Animoji on iPhones and iPad.

5. Air Typing

The headset will support air typing functionality as it will recognize the fingers as they move using built-in cameras.

6. Thin & Light design

The headset is expected to be made from mesh fabric and aluminum making it lighter and thinner than other mixed-reality headsets. The weight will be kept at around 200 grams which will make it very lightweight.

7. Control Methods

3D sensing modules will detect hand gestures for control purposes and there will be skin detection as well. Voice control will be supported and a thimble-like device will be worn on the finger for operations.

8. External Battery Pack

Most of the AR/VR headsets have an integrated battery, but Apple is planning to have the headset connect to a separate, external battery that it wore at the waist. The external battery will power the headset for approx. 2 hours and it will be able to be swapped out for continuous usage while a second battery charges.

9. App Experiences

The headset will run a new OS called xrOS aka Reality OS. The OS would support all the exciting features that Apple plans to bring to the Mixed Reality Headset.

10. Apple Silicone Chipset

Reports claim that Apple might use two Mac-level M2 processors for the mixed-reality headset, which will give it more power than competing products.

Apple Mixed Reality Headset: Expected Price

The Apple headset is expected to be priced at 3000 USD. Even if the headset is showcased at the WWDC in June, it might go on sale after several months as the production will take time.

The World Wide Developers Conference 2023 will be held from June 5 to June 9.
