Apple wants owners of old iPhones, iPads to download important update

Apple’s support page claims that the new iOS 12.5.4 update is being rolled out for iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air, iPad mini 2, iPad mini 3, and iPod touch (6th generation). While these devices stopped getting OS updates since iOS 13, Apple continues to provide security updates.

Apple had introduced the last security update for these devices in May with the rollout of iOS 12.5.3. For owners of these devices, the company will be rolling out the new version via an over the air (OTA) update. The update had started rolling out on 14 June. Users who haven’t received the update notification, can check manually by visiting the ‘settings’ page and then go to ‘general’ and then ‘software update’ to look for the new version. If you still don’t spot it, Apple might rollout the update soon.

Apple recently rolled out iOS 15 at its annual developer conference WWDC. Surprisingly, the company has committed to providing the update for devices as old as the iPhone 6s, which was launch back in 2015. However, many new features on the iOS 15 will be demanding for the old hardware on devices such as iPhone 6s. Apple is expected to optimize the iOS 15 version for older devices by cutting down features.
