apple: Why Apple Watch Series 3 may be discontinued this year – Times of India

Apple will reportedly discontinue the Apple Watch Series 3 this year. According to known Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the smartwatch may meet its end of life in the third quarter of 2022. Although the tech giant has stopped selling Apple Watch series 4, series 5 and series 6. The five year old Apple Watch series 3 managed to survive all these years as an affordable alternative next to Apple Watch SE.
As Apple is rumoured to unveil the next-generation of operating system for its smartwatches, watchOS 9 at the WWDC22, Kuo believes that the computing power of Apple Watch Series 3 may not meet the requirements of the new OS. It is worth noting that Apple may discontinue the Apple Watch Series 3 but that does not mean that the company will end support for the same. Users of the device will still be able to take advantage of its fitness sensors.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman believes that 2022 is going to be a big year for Apple Watch. “I think this year will be the biggest in the history of the Apple Watch since the original model,” he wrote in his newsletter PowerOn. Apple is rumoured to launch a range of products this year including new iPhones, Macs, iPads, smartwatches, AirPods, AR/VR headset and more.
According to Gurman, the tech giant will launch three new smartwatches this year — Apple Watch Series 8, upgraded Apple Watch SE and an Apple Watch geared toward extreme sports. Gurman has mentioned in his Power On newsletter that he does not expect any major upgrades in Apple smartwatches when it comes to health sensors. He also believes that the wearables may feature body temperature feature, faster chips and better activity tracking.
