Apple working on its own ChatGPT-like AI chatbot ‘Apple GPT’: Report
Apple is developing an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google’s Bard, but they haven’t decided how they will release it to the public yet, according to a report by noted Apple analyst Mark Gurman.
Apple AI chatbot features
As per the report, the tech giant has reportedly created its own framework called “Ajax” to develop large language models (LLMs). They are also testing a chatbot internally, which is referred to as “Apple GPT” by some engineers.
Apple has multiple teams working on their latest AI project, led by John Giannandrea, the head of machine learning and AI, along with Craig Federighi, the top software engineering executive at Apple.
Unlike other tech giants such as Alphabet and Microsoft, Apple has been cautious about making significant moves in AI, and they even avoided mentioning AI at their developer conference in June.
Nevertheless, Apple has subtly integrated advanced AI features in products like Apple Photos, on-device texting, and the recently launched mixed-reality headset Vision Pro. However, analysts believe Apple is not as advanced as its competitors in adopting this new technology. The new virtual assistant being developed by Apple can summarize text and answer questions based on the data it has been trained with.
Currently, the AI chatbot is reportedly being used for product prototyping. Employees describe the tool as similar to other AI systems like Bard, ChatGPT, and Bing AI, and it functions as a web application. Apple does not have a specific plan for these AI tools, but they aim to make a significant AI-related announcement sometime next year.
On the other hand, ChatGPT for iOS was released in the month of May for Indian consumers. The free app enables users to synchronize their chat history across various devices. To use the app, iOS 16.1 or a higher version is necessary.
