Apple’s mixed reality headset may have 5G, Wi-Fi 6 and start production in Q4 2022: Reports – Times of India

Apple’s first mixed reality headset is expected to support 5G and might be equipped with Wi-Fi 6 for lower latency and higher bandwidth. The tech giant’s mixed reality headset might also start off its production in the fourth quarter of 2022, reports AppleInsider. There is no information about the date of announcement or the shipping details of this device, but the report has some key details about the device.
The report adds that Apple is trying to mitigate the need for a wired connection between headset and computer by developing the Wi-Fi 6 connection. Faster Wi-Fi is expected to reduce the input lag and give users a better experience of the wireless connection. Wi-Fi 6, or 802.11ax can be used to connect a large number of devices. Sony and Meta might also adopt this technology in 2022 as well. However, the first Apple AR headset is expected to be a big head mounted display and not at all light and user friendly like the Apple Glasses.
Business Insider reports that Apple’s AR-VR headset will also be released in 2022. This Apple device is expected to be very expensive as it will be equipped with advanced display, sensors, chip and even avatar-based features. The AR-VR capabilities in this headset is expected to offer a “mixed reality experience that can handle games in high-quality virtual reality” , adds the report.
This device may target developers and business customers more than the regular consumers. It is also expected to lead the “next wave of user interface revolution” and expose the myth that AR/VR devices are only good for gaming. The reports also adds that the upcoming headset will be more like the Oculus Quest and some prototypes even had external cameras to use the AR features.
Other reports suggested that this headset will work only with an iPhone or a Macbook Pro and Apple is working on a 5nm SoC, display driver and image sensor for this device. Meta (Facebook), Sony and HTC Vive are the top players in the virtual reality space.
