Apple opened its first store in Mumbai
After almost three-year-long-wait, a company-owned Apple store has opened in India. The opening of Apple’s stores in India has been described as a significant boost to the company’s expansion efforts in the country. While Apple launched its online store in India in 2020, it had not yet opened any physical stores due to prior investment regulations that have since been eased, as well as pandemic-related delays.
The Apple Store in Mumbai is located at the posh Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) financial, arts, and entertainment district, at the Jio World Drive Mall. The Apple BKC store has been created to rank among the most environmentally sustainable Apple Store locations globally. The store is equipped with a specialized solar array and operates entirely on renewable energy, without any dependence on fossil fuels for its operations. As a result, the store is operationally carbon-neutral.
In addition, the store boasts handcrafted timber ceilings composed of 1,000 tiles made up of 31 modules each, with 408 pieces of timber used to form each module. The impressive ceiling required over 450,000 individual timber elements, all of which were assembled in Delhi.
