ar headset: Apple may announce its first AR headset in 2022: Report – Times of India

With 2021 drawing to a close, rumours and guesses about what the tech companies have in store for the next year have started their fair share of rounds again. Tech giant Apple is believed to be working on a new product type for the next year, apart from its conventional gadgets like the iPhone, MacBooks, etc. This new gadget could be an AR headset, slated for launch in 2022, as per the claims of Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. He made the claim in the latest edition of the Power On newsletter.
As per Gurman, it is more likely for Apple to announce the AR headset and launch it at a later date, which is something the Cupertino-based tech giant has earlier done with its other devices. The gap between the announcement and the launch is claimed to be “sizable” and would perhaps “rival that of the original Apple Watch.”
The AR headset will have “interchangeable lenses” and a “complex, expensive-to-build” design, says the newsletter
“The company will likely need to work with governments globally on possible prescription lenses and partner with a bevvy of manufacturers on complex technologies that neither side has shipped before”, said the newsletter.
Tech analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also claimed that the Apple AR headset could launch in Q4 of 2022. As per Kuo the first AR headset by the company will be powered by a processor Mac or PC-level computing power and operable without relying on a PC or phone. He’d also claimed that the headset would support “a comprehensive range of applications rather than specific applications.”
