Arcane Season 2 Won’t Be Ready This Year

Arcane fans are eagerly awaiting the second season of the League of Legends animated series, but the wait will extend beyond 2023.

In an interview with League of Legends Pro League caster Guan Ze Yuan, Riot Games CEO Nicolo Laurent gave an update on Season 2’s progress.

“I just watched the third episode of Season 2 before my flight to China, so we’re making progress on it,” Laurent said. “It is not ready yet, and there’s two reasons for that. One, you want the quality, you just don’t wanna rush, and so that takes time. So that’s the good reason. The bad reason is honestly like, we didn’t know if Season 1 was gonna be a success… If I had known we could have started Season 2 way earlier, but we didn’t know so we kind of waited a bit and so now we’re paying the price, so it’s unfortunately not going to be this year.”

Little is known about Arcane’s follow-up season, except that Hailee Steinfeld’s Vi, Ella Purnell’s Jinx, and Katie Leung’s Caitlyn Kiramman will all return. Season 2 is coming from Riot Games and Fortiche Productions. Riot recently bought a “significant, non-controlling stake” in the animation studio. The companies are partnering on Arcane and “other to-be-announced projects”.

The hype for Arcane Season 2 is justified. We called Season 1 a masterpiece in our review, saying, “we’ll be talking about Arcane as a classic and a standard-setter for years to come.” The show also became the first streaming series to win an Emmy for outstanding animated program.
