Arsenal ‘agree’ £50m fee with Brighton for Ben White transfer as contract details emerge
Arsenal have finally agreed a fee with Brighton to sign England defender Ben White, according to reports. Arsenal have been in advanced talks to sign White for several weeks. And now it appears the Gunners are close to getting their man.
Arsenal have been in the market for a right-sided centre-back following the departure of David Luiz at the end of his contract.
White was identified by Mikel Arteta earlier this summer after an impressive first full season in the Premier League.
The 23-year-old was a regular under Graham Potter last term and can also play in midfield and at right-back.
And after weeks of speculation, The Sun claims Arsenal have agreed to pay Brighton’s asking price of £50million.
White has already agreed personal terms with Arsenal and will sign a five-year contract.
His medical will not take place until he returns from his post-Euro 2020 holiday.
White was a late call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England squad and impressed on his full debut for the Three Lions.
However, he did not feature at Euro 2020 and was often left out of the match day squad.
The Sun says Arsenal saw off late interest from Chelsea to secure a deal for White.
Brighton plan to spend a large part of the money they receive for White on a striker.
White’s arrival will continue Arteta’s rebuild of his squad this summer.
Arsenal have already signed left-back Nuno Tavares from Benfica and will complete a deal for Albert Sambi Lokonga in the coming days.
Arteta wants to make further additions in goal, at right-back and in midfield.
The Spaniard is also keen to shift out a number of players from his first-team squad.
Hector Bellerin and Granit Xhaka are linked with Inter Milan and Roma respectively.
Meanwhile, experienced duo Willian and Sead Kolasinac could also both be on their way out.
