Arsenal could sign their next Giroud as Wahi’s agent opens talks with Gunners

Arsenal could be set to return to their tried and tested formula by acquiring a French forward this summer, having previously enjoyed success with Olivier Giroud and Alexandre Lacazette. Montpellier star Elye Wahi is attracting plenty of interest this summer, and it has been no secret that he would favour a move to the Emirates Stadium if the opportunity arose.

Mikel Arteta is keen to continue rebuilding the Gunners this summer, with the Spaniard demanding reinforcements in all departments. The Arsenal boss is hopeful of bringing in at least one defender this summer, as well as several midfielders – including West Ham skipper Declan Rice.

Arteta has also highlighted his need to bring in another forward to provide an alternative option in the final third, keen to ensure he has enough depth to compete in all competitions. Thus, it would be no surprise for a move for Wahi to be approved of by the higher powers in north London after his impressive breakthrough season in the Ligue 1.

Reports have previously speculated that Arsenal and Tottenham are among those keen on the 20-year-old, and Montpellier’s president Laurent Nicollin fuelling speculation by confirming that Wahi’s agent is in talks with several sides. He told 100% Paillade: “His agent talks with 4-5 big clubs, I know them but I won’t tell you. We know he likes Arsenal a lot.”

Wahi scored 19 goals and assisted five in 33 Ligue 1 appearances for Montpellier this season, often playing through the middle but showing versatility when asked to move out to the left by manager Michel Der Zakarian.

Arsenal have enjoyed plenty of success when recruiting from Montpellier previously too, with Giroud being poached from the club back in 2012. The now-AC Milan star was a roaring success at the Emirates, and a new Frenchman could be about to follow in his footsteps in Arsenal table an offer for Wahi.
