Arsenal ‘have their own Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero’ – Exclusive

Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus is the club’s very own version of Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne, Ray Parlour has told Express Sport. The Brazil international joined from Manchester City back in the summer. And he’s been in impressive form since, propelling the Gunners to the top of the Premier League table.

Arsenal knew they needed a new striker in the summer, having opted against replacing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang following his move to Barcelona back in January.

And while they were linked with Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Alexander Isak, it was Jesus who arrived instead.

Arsenal spent a fee in the region of £45million on the Brazil international, with only Aubameyang, Ben White, Alexandre Lacazette and Nicolas Pepe costing more in the club’s entire history.

He has been an instant success story, however, with Jesus shining for Arsenal and firing them to the top of the league table.

And Gunners legend Parlour, speaking exclusively to Express Sport, has expressed a belief he’s like the club’s very own De Bruyne and Aguero due to how important he is.

“Probably if they win the league!” he said when asked if City would regret letting Jesus move to their rivals.

“It all comes down to what they win and Jesus was a different sort of player for them.

“He wasn’t the main man, always had other players around him like Aguero and De Bruyne. But at Arsenal now he’s such an important player.

“He’s probably such as important to them as De Bruyne and Aguero were to City.

“I think he’s really took that on his shoulders and really enjoys being the main man. He knows he’s going to be the main man, playing every week.

“I think he brings a lot to the dressing room, too. He’s a lively character, I was there in pre-season and he was really upbeat and positive.

“So I’m sure he brings that across to the other players which is really important.”

Another player Arsenal raided City for back in the summer transfer window was Oleksandr Zinchenko.

It was a deal that surprised many, especially with the Ukraine international being such a useful player for the reigning Premier League champions during his time at the Etihad.

And Parlour has also been impressed with the 25-year-old, despite injuries restricting him to just seven league appearances so far this term.

“I just think there’s a really good spirit at the moment,” he added.

“Obviously Jesus and Zinchenko have been two great signings for the club.

“They know how to win trophies and Gabriel Martinelli has always been lively [as well], he needed that run in the team.

“Some players are just waiting for their chance, he’s been patient with a couple of injuries and he had to bide his time, especially with Emile Smith-Rowe standing out.

“But now he’s got into the team he’s been unbelievable, he’s been brilliant.

“His work rate, you can tell he loves football. I went to pre-season with Arsenal and you can sense he loves training, loves being out kicking a ball.

“Jesus, he brings so much to the team even though he’s not scored for nine games. His work rate, his link-up play has been excellent he drops deep sometimes.

“He’s probably not an out No 9 but he’s brought so much to the team and every Arsenal fan will be delighted with their transfer window, with Jesus and Zinchenko they’ve signed two great players there.”

For Jesus, the Arsenal star will now be aiming to propel Brazil to World Cup glory.

And Parlour thinks they’re the favourites, with the Gunners icon adding: “When you look at the squad, and some of the players who missed out, I’ve got to go with Brazil.

“There’s not a lot of preparation, as we all know because we’ve only just come off domestic football, you’ve got to look at the best squad and the best players.

“If you look at Brazil’s squad, I think they’re pretty much perfect all across the park.

“I think there’s always a couple of surprises, I don’t know who they’ll be, and if I was putting my money down I’d probably go with Brazil.”
