Arsenal star Bukayo Saka gives honest verdict on title hopes
Arsenal winger Bukayo Saka has downplayed the Gunners’ title hopes, insisting it is too early to be discussing the Premier League top spot. Mikel Arteta’s men go into Sunday’s match against Leeds on the top of the pile after an excellent start to the season. However, the club’s top players are not looking too far ahead as they aim to continue their good form.
Arsenal have enjoyed their best start to a season for 18 years, taking 24 points from their opening nine games. They are currently one point clear of reigning champions Manchester City at the summit with the Emirates faithful increasingly hopeful that they can mount a title challenge.
However, this suggestion has been downplayed by Saka, who has claimed it is too soon to start talking about the trophy, instead preferring to focus on the immediate task at hand.
“No, not really,” the England international said when asked if topping the division had encouraged a different mindset within the club. “It’s really early in the season to be thinking about staying top or that anyone is chasing us.
“It’s just important to stay focused because if we continue to win each game, we still stay at the top! So, we don’t need to over-think it – about being chased and stuff like that.”

“That’s a classic example. We didn’t play our best and were not so happy with our performance,” he explained. “But at the end of the day, we leave there with the three points. That’s the most important thing and we can be happy with that.
“It’s a big learning curve but sometimes you’ve just got to do what it takes to win.”
A win at Elland Road will take the Gunners four points clear at the top of the table for at least two hours while the club await the result of City’s match with Liverpool at Anfield. The club’s supporters will hope their current form can continue for as long as possible as they mount a Premier League title challenge.
