Arsenal target Kai Havertz risks Chelsea wrath with ‘we’re ready’ Kovacic post
Kai Havertz has risked the wrath of Chelsea supporters by declaring he and Mateo Kovacic are ‘ready’ amid huge speculation over their respective futures. The German is closing in on a move to Arsenal, while Manchester City are set to seal the signing of his team-mate.
Arsenal have agreed a £65million fee to sign Havertz. In one of the surprise deals of the summer so far, the 24-year-old has undergone a medical this weekend ahead of a move across London.
Meanwhile, Kovacic has been lined up as a direct replacement for Ilkay Gundogan by treble-winners City. A £25m deal is all but done for the Croatian, who has also completed his medical.
Both transfers are expected to be officially announced in the coming days. The pair are currently enjoying some downtime before pre-season at their respective new clubs and attended the wedding of goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga in Marbella on Sunday.
Havertz posted a picture of himself, Kovacic and former Chelsea team-mate Andreas Christensen on Saturday. And now he has posted an image of just himself and Kovacic.
The pair, dressed smartly for Kepa’s big day, are standing next to each other smiling at the camera. Havertz tweeted: “We’re ready @mateokovacic8” along with the image.
Chelsea fans immediately picked up on the tweet regarding two players who are set to leave their club. @FutbolChelsea wrote: “He knows exactly what he’s doing with this and there’s no chance it’s a coincidence now. £65million for someone with 19 goals in 91 Premier League appearances.”
@CFCGuvnor had a similar opinion, writing: “He knows exactly what he’s doing.” While @CFC_Janty put: “Now you’re just trolling at this point Lmaoo.”
Meanwhile, some fans seemed to enjoy the post. @scrapytweets put: “They’re trolling Chelsea.. They’re ready to be announced in their new clubs”, accompanied by two crying-with-laughter emojis.
Arsenal supporters in particular were loving the tweet. Some fans replied with pictures of Havertz mocked up in Gunners kit while one user joked: “Ready to leave the smallest club in England.”
Arsenal midfielder and former Chelsea star Jorginho was also at the wedding. The Italian posted a selfie of him and Havertz to his Instagram story, along with several eye emojis and a crying-with-laughter emoji.
Havertz is set to bring a three-year spell at Chelsea to an end. He joined from Bayer Leverkusen in 2020 and has scored 32 goals in 139 appearances for the Blues.
Kovacic joined Chelsea two years earlier, initially on loan from Real Madrid. He played 221 times for the club, scoring six goals.
