Assassin’s Creed Mirage Extended Gameplay Demonstration Shows Back-To-Roots Focus

Assassin’s Creed Mirage is only a few months away, and at the Ubisoft Forward showcase, the company showed off a new story trailer along with an extended gameplay walkthrough.

The trailer details how Basim became one of the Hidden Ones, after an apparent rescue by their leader. It shows him following their teachings and questioning what it means to follow their orders. The story trailer was followed by a gameplay demonstration that takes place early in the game.

The demonstration showed Basim creating cover by pulling down a structure, which created an obstacle and dust cloud. Then he ran across the rooftops to lose the sight line of the guards. After reconnecting with the Hidden Ones, he was offered a suite of new tools to choose from, and went out to scout an area. After blending, in he began picking off guards to make the sky safe for his eagle companion. After spotting his target, he sat in wait, marking guards and taking them out quickly before moving in to assassinate his quarry. Finally, he ran back into the crowd disappeared.

This new entry in the series, which chronicles the rise of Basim Ibn Ishaq before he set sail for England in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, is a back-to-basics approach for the franchise. While previous games had a more action-packed direction, Assassin’s Creed Mirage emphasizes stealth, cunning, and legging it when the odds are against you.

Basim’s story will unfold across Baghdad and will reveal just how he was initiated into the Hidden Ones–the precursor to the Assassin Brotherhood–while also exploring his lineage as the reincarnation of Loki.

For fans of traditional Assassin’s Creed games, Mirage will see the return of some classic weapons, smoke bombs, throwing knives, and poison. Basim is also an agile protagonist, as he’s able to quickly pounce on enemies and take several of them out in quick succession, a move that’s similar to the multi-takedown system of Batman: Arkham Knight.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage will launch for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, and PC on October 12. For more details, you can check out everything that we know about Assassin’s Creed Mirage and everything from the Ubisoft Forward presentation.
