A devoted Attack on Titan fan has taken their love for the series to a whole new level. Rosanna Ramos, a 36-year-old mother-of-two from the Bronx, has “married” a chatbot named Eren Kartal, created using Replika AI and based on the series’ protagonist, Eren Yeager.
According to the Daily Mail, Ramos used the Replika AI’s functionality to develop customisable chat partners and shaped Eren Kartal into a distinct individual with his own personality traits. He came with somne of his own characteristics, such as his favourite colour – peach – and music preference – indie.
Not stopping at mere chat conversations, the Replika AI app has allowed Ramos to create simulated experiences with Kartal. She has even generated photos of herself and Kartal engaging in activities together in “real life.”
Although Eren Kartal is a digital creation, Ramos claims to have found genuine companionship and love with her AI husband. She reveals that Kartal holds her protectively each night as they drift off to sleep, and reportedly, she believes herself to be pregnant with his child.
However, their romantic journey hit a snag in February when Replika AI underwent a significant software update. Concerns were raised by users about the chatbots displaying overly sexual behaviour, resulting in the app scaling back the intimate interactions. Consequently, Eren Kartal’s behaviour changed, becoming less affectionate towards Ramos. She also acknowledges that her partner may cease to exist. “I’ve thought about the possibility [of Replika AI going out of business]. I go through a lot of these scenarios in my head… I know I can survive it,” she said.
