Australian Open: Tennis star Nick Kyrgios’ hair malfunction – ‘Rudy Giuliani moment!’

Nick Kyrgios, 26, battled valiantly against world number two Daniil Medvedev, 25, but lost his second round clash by three sets to one. Despite his admirable performance, the Canberra-born tennis player took social media by storm after Australian Open viewers spotted an issue with his hair.

Fans posted on Twitter their shock when what appeared to be black hair dye melted and dribbled down Kyrgios’ forehead.

One user, Jayele, posted: “Someone on Rod Laver Arena please tell Nick Kyrgios he has black hair dye dripping down his forehead.”

However, other users were quick to make the otherwise unusual comparison between Kyrgios and an ally to Donald Trump, 75.

Following Mr Trump’s defeat in the 2020 US Presidential Election, the ex-POTUS’ lawyer Rudy Giuliani, 77, suffered a similar hair malfunction.

Speaking at the Republican National Committee headquarters just two weeks after polling day, Mr Giuliani repeated baseless claims of electoral fraud.

Giuliani frequently had to mop sweat away from his brow and upper lip.

However, he was unable to stop the dark dye from trickling down his cheeks.

Another user, Eric Champnella, asked: “Who wore it better?” accompanied by an image of Guiliani and Kyrgios.

A third user, Pog’s Tennis Channel, said: “Nick Kyrgios having a Rudy Giuliani moment as hair dye melts off his face.”

One more, Brodie Wilkinson, commented: “Nick Kyrgios sweating his hair dye out like Rudy Giuliani.”

A fifth, OptusSportsITGuy, penned: “Is Kyrgios’s hair dye going to old up or is it going to result in a Rudy Giuliani episode?”

Mr Kyrgios’ defeat against the Russian ace came just days after he knocked-out Brit Liam Broady, 28, in the first round.

But Medvedev, who is the reigning US Open champion, complained about the crowd in Melbourne during his clash with Kyrgios.

Supporters had been heard mimicking the “siu” celebratory sound used by Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, 36, when he finds the back of the net for Manchester United.

He told Eurosport: “I guess some people just have a low IQ.”

But Medvedev isn’t the only tennis player to have complained about the crowd.

Following his defeat, Broady said: “It’s the first time I have ever walked on to a tennis court and been booed.

“You get sledged from the sides – you can’t believe that they don’t pick it up on TV.”

He added: “I thought it was absolutely awful.”
