Avatar 2: Final Action-Packed Trailer Out, James Cameron Reveals Challenging “Threshold” for the Movie to Be Profitable

The third and final trailer for Avatar: The Way of Avatar is finally out.

The teaser trailer for the sequel to the hit James Cameron-directed film sees the return of Jake and Neytiri along with the people of Na’Vi from Pandora. While the first film showcased Pandora’s lush jungles, the sequel moves to the water to reveal the tribes living in the shoreline.

Along with Jake’s family, the new trailer gives fans a look at the upcoming conflict involving the Resource Development Administration and the people of Na’Vi. Other than beautiful environments that Cameron has teased for the past few months, expect to see a ton of explosive action and battles in the film as well.

Avatar: The Way of Water might need to earn over $2 billion at the box office to break even

It’s no secret that James Cameron has employed a ton of technological advancements to bring the watery realms of Pandora to life. With three more sequels set to arrive after The Way of Water, the budget has definitely skyrocketed.

However, according to Cameron, it seems like The Way of Water needs to perform tremendously at the box office when it arrives on December 16.

In an interview with GQ Magazine, the Titanic director dubbed the upcoming sequel “the worst business case in movie history.” Furthermore, Cameron even mentioned, “you have to be the third or fourth highest-grossing film in history. That’s your threshold. That’s your break even.”

With the top five highest grossing films earning over $2 billion at the box office, Avatar: The Way of Water will need to hit the jackpot when it arrives in theatres, and it will be interesting to see how the film performs in comparison to the original, which grossed nearly $3 billion.
