A new, behind-the-scenes image from Avatar 3 has debuted online, offering a first glimpse at the return to Pandora.
Avatar 3 may have been delayed, but producer Jon Landau isn’t holding back after releasing a new, behind-the-scenes image on Twitter.
“Each Avatar film is an exciting but epic undertaking that takes time to bring to the quality level we as filmmakers strive for and audiences have come to expect,” he said. “The team is hard at work and can’t wait to bring audiences back to Pandora in December 2025.”

The image shows a young Na’vi, though it’s unclear which one, alongside another, sleek-looking Na’vi who’s wearing some kind of black head covering. Armor? A scuba suit? Your guess is as good as ours.
However, it could be a hint of what’s to come when the Na’vi we know and love encounter other tribes on their precious Pandora.
“There are good humans and there are bad humans,” said Landau, previously. “It’s the same thing on the Na’vi side. Oftentimes, people don’t see themselves as bad. What is the root cause of how they evolve into what we perceive as bad? Maybe there are other factors there that we aren’t aware of.”
The upcoming Avatar sequel will shift away from Jake Sully, with his son Lo’ak te Suli Tsyeyk’itan instead acting as the film’s narrator.
“Lo’ak really emerged as a character that people went with,” said director James Cameron. “I might find ways to… he’s already the narrator. I’m giving away something here, but this is okay. I think it could be intriguing for people to think about what’s coming.”
IGN’s review of Avatar: The Way of Water gave it 8/10 and said: “Avatar: The Way of Water is a clear improvement on its predecessor and, though its story isn’t breaking new ground, its jaw-dropping visuals make this an irresistible return to Pandora.”
