Avatar 3 to Introduce Fire Based Na’Vi; James Cameron Explains the Money Needed for the Way of Water to Break Even, and More
While it’s been less than a month since Avatar: The Way of Water dropped, director James Cameron has already begun dropping hints about the future of the hit sci-fi series.
Exploring Earth and introducing Na’Vi Fire tribes
In a recent interview with 20 minutes, Cameron explained that Avatar 3 will introduce fire Na’Vi tribes known as the Ash People. The director of films like Titanic stated that the fire tribe will showcase the negative side of Na’Vi, as past films of the series has only shown the good side. “We will also explore new universes while continuing the story of the main characters. I can say that the last parts will be the best,” stated Cameron. “The others were an introduction, a way to set the table before serving the meal.”
In another interview with Gizmodo, producer Jon Landau also shared that the series would introduce Earth, which will “open Neytiri’s eyes.” Landau said, “Just like you’re defined by the choices you make in life, not all humans are bad. Not all Na’vi are good. And that’s the case here on Earth. And we want to expose Neytiri to that.”
Avatar: The Way of Water close to breaking even
Despite crossing the $1 billion mark last week, James Cameron had revealed in the past that the film would need to become “the third or fourth highest grossing film” to break even. That would mean the film must earn around $2 billion.
However, the director recently clarified his remarks about the film’s box office run, as he mentioned that Avatar 2 would have to be around the tenth highest grossing film to be profitable. This means that the sequel will have to cross the $1.5 billion mark.

According to Variety, the film has broken the $1.38 billion barrier over the weekend, which means that it’s just a matter of time before the film becomes profitable.
Kate Winslet breaks Tom Cruise’s record
As Avatar 2 featured several underwater sequences, the actors in the film needed to be a bit experienced at holding their breath underwater. However, actress Kate Winslet took it to the next level, as she famously held her breath underwater for 7 minutes and 14 seconds.
