Avatar: the Last Airbender Star Feels Original Cast Is Unlikely To Return for Upcoming Animated Movies

Avatar: The Last Airbender voice actor Michaela Jill Murphy says it’s unlikely that the original cast of the animated series will be returning for the upcoming movies. Murphy voiced the blind earthbender Toph who first appeared in Season 2. Toph, along with the main heroes of Avatar, is set to return for the upcoming movies. The untitled Avatar: the Last Airbender film is also set to mark the return of characters Aang, Katara, Sokka, and Zuko.

Avatar: the Last Airbender original cast

Murphy was speaking at MomoCon where she shared her thoughts on a possible return for the original cast. She said (via Comicbook) she would love to return for a project related to Avatar but mentioned that the creators have a vision and the projects get executed accordingly. She also added that fans wanted a fourth season as well, but it did not align with the creative vision at that point of time.

She said, “If you’re an actor, you’re always interested in being called back for a project. I think they’re going to be recasting for pretty much everything… It’s not like people are going to clamor and be like, ‘Bring back the originals!’”

“[The show] was three seasons and then people were like ‘Make a fourth, make a fourth!’ and they were like ‘No.’ They have a vision and they execute it the way they want to. I’m sad because I would come love to come back and do stuff but you know I’ll be cheering from the audience with everyone else!” added Murphy.

The Avatar: the Last Airbender movie was announced in April, and it was revealed (via Screen Rant) that the movie will feature grown-up versions of Aang and his friends in their 30s. Keeping that in mind, it makes sense that the movie features voice actors who fit that age group. The characters’ ages also reveal that the movie’s events are likely to take place between the original Avatar: the Last Airbender and sequel series The Legend of Korra.
