Avatar: Way of the Water Beats No Way Home to Become the Sixth Highest Grossing Movie of All Time and More

James Cameron has done it again, as he has provided the blockbuster that people needed through Avatar: Way of the Water. We recently learned that Avatar 2 became the highest grossing Hollywood movie in India. We were also informed that the movie was on track to beat the box office figures of Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Now, through a report by Collider, it has been revealed that Avatar: Way of the Water has indeed beat Spider-Man: No Way Home, surpassing the $1.916 billion record set by the latter. This achievement has not only made Avatar: Way of the Water the sixth highest grossing movie of all time, but also the highest grossing film to come out of the pandemic.

Now the movie will set its sight on crossing the $2 billion threshold, which consists of only 5 other movies; Avatar with $2.9 billion, Avengers: Endgame with $2.79 billion, Titanic with $2.2 billion, Star Wars: The Force Awakens with $2.069 billion and Avengers: Infinity War with $2.04 billion. It seems the next target is Avengers: Infinity War,and crossing that movie will allow Avatar 2 to infiltrate the list of the top 5 highest grossing movies of all time.

On the topic of Avatar, a new hiring for the cast of the franchise’s threequel has been revealed. As spotted by Screenrant, in the latest issue of Empire magazine, Jon Landau, the movie’s producer has revealed that Game of Thrones actress, Oona Chaplin will be a part of the third instalment of the series. She will be stepping into the shoes of a character called Varang, who will lead the tribe of Na’vi Ash People.

As we all know, Avatar: Way of the Water takes place almost entirely underwater and for that many cast members had to undergo serious training to perform well underwater. Tsireya actress Bailey Bass recently spoke about the physical demands for these shoots in an interview with Shape.

She spoke about how the freediving aspect of the movie was the “most nerve-wracking” part for her. She also spoke about her growth during the film and how freediving started out as one of the things she hated and later went onto become one of her favorite things to do. Moreover, she revealed how keeping up with the teenage boys in training was also one of the biggest challenges during the shoots.
