Barbie movie celebrates $1 billion box office with new Monopoly spinoff
Barbie fans are in for a treat this Christmas, as Hasbro unveils its brand new Barbie-themed Monopoly set. The Barbie Monopoly board game is scheduled to launch on November 17 for a price of £29.99. If you pre-order now, then you’ll receive the new Barbie spinoff in plenty of time for Christmas. In addition to the traditional Monopoly experience of buying properties, charging rent and trying to bankrupt your opponents, the upcoming game lets players select a career for Barbie, complete with a unique skill.
In addition to picking a career path such as Pilot, Astronaut, CEO and Teacher, players can select from one of six different tokens to represent them on the board.
The signature pink tokens include famous Barbie-themed accessories, such as a Dog, Shoe, Sportscar, Speedboat and Roller Skate. You can even play as Barbie herself.
Hasbro explains more: “Step into your dream world! The Monopoly: Barbie Edition board game combines Barbie fashion, places, and themes combined with classic Monopoly gameplay.
“Travel around the board buying famous Barbie streets, building DreamHouses, and collecting rent! The player with the most money after the first player goes bankrupt wins.”
Needless to say, the Barbie Monopoly set is the perfect companion to the Barbie movie, which has earned more than $1 billion at the box office.
Starring Margot Robbie as Barbie and Ryan Gosling as Ken, the movie sees the titular character travel to the real world in a voyage of self discovery.
Despite launching at the same time as Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, the Barbie movie has managed to set global box office records.
Indeed, Barbie director Greta Gerwig has become the first solo female director to helm a billion dollar movie.
It’s only the sixth movie since the pandemic to gross over $1 billion, after Avatar: The Way of Water, The Super Mario Brothers Movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Top Gun: Maverick and Jurassic World Dominion.
