Barry’s Anthony Carrigan Thinks About What a NoHo Hank Spinoff Would Look Like
Bill Hader’s Barry Berkman may be taking his final bow, but Anthony Carrigan hopes there will be a future for NoHo Hank outside of the HBO dark comedy series.
“In subtle ways, I’ve dropped the hint, like, ‘You know, HBO is saying that this character is a fan favorite. What do you think about that, Bill?’” Carrigan told IGN. “But honestly, I trust Bill’s insight on it because this show is so closely his vision, and that’s the only way I would do it — if Bill were at the helm.”
When asked if he’d be interested in exploring the Chechen mobster’s origin story or his life post-Barry, Carrigan said, “The origin story sounds pretty rad. I mean, just from Chechnya to Los Angeles, that could work really well for something.”
The fourth and final season of Barry sees NoHo Hank and Cristobal (Michael Irby) seemingly enjoying a tranquil life together after nearly being executed in the Season 3 conclusion. When they’re dragged back into crime, however, tensions rise between the two lovers.
“I don’t know if we’ll go the Better Call Saul route,” co-creator Hader said. “I mean, I never say never to things. But today, no.”
Stephen Root, who plays Barry’s handler Monroe Fuches, also gave his input about a NoHo Hank spinoff series.
“I think the best version of what you’re saying is, is a NoHo Hank-based thing and that would, to me, be a nice six-episode, ‘What happens with Hank?’” Root said. “I would want to see that myself, as a fanboy.”
Barry Season 4 premieres Sunday on HBO and HBO Max; read IGN’s 9/10 review here.
