Batman: Kevin Conroy Was Frustrated By Recording Process for Arkham Games

Kevin Conroy, who is known for his iconic voice of Batman in the animated series and the Arkham games, got frustrated with the voice recording process for the latter.

In a Warner Bros. interview (thanks to Fandomwire), Conroy stated he found recording dialogues for video games to be a different process. as he was used to recording with actors together. But when it came to video games, he said that he had to record alone in a soundproof booth for four hours a day. This was followed by an hour of lunch, and then four hours more of recording. He had to keep his character’s voice consistent during the entire time. On top of that, the team would request him to repeat the lines multiple times, with different tones, and so on.

Conroy said that by the time he finished recording for the day, he was exhausted. He didn’t know what more the team wanted from him. The process continued for a week, and then he got a couple of weeks off while more lines were being written for him to say. Then, he would have to return to record more lines. For the third game in the Arkham Knight trilogy, Conroy revealed he recorded 37,000 lines of dialogue in two years.

Conroy passed away in November 2022. He will posthumously reprise his role as Batman in Rocksteady’s upcoming game Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, which is set to be released in May 2023.
