Bayern Munich ‘could sell Sadio Mane’ as Liverpool icon to apologise

Bayern Munich could reportedly sell Sadio Mane as one of several punishments being considered by the German club after the Liverpool icon was involved in an altercation with team-mate Leroy Sane. Winger Sane was apparently left with a bloodied lip following an alleged bust-up with Mane after Bayern were beaten by Manchester City in the Champions League this week.

Reports in Germany claim that Mane will apologise to his colleagues when they meet for training today (Thursday). Bayern stars will link up for the first time since being hammered 3-0 by City on Tuesday.

Mane and Sane were seen arguing on the pitch late in the game, with Thomas Tuchel’s side torn apart by the Premier League outfit. It is claimed that the tension continued in the dressing room after the game and the former City man was left with a bloodied lip following the altercation. Some reports have claimed Mane ‘punched’ his team-mate, although neither Bayern nor Mane have commented on the supposed incident.

Bayern executives apparently met on Wednesday to debrief after a horrid night for the reigning Bundesliga champions. They are allegedly considering a range of punishments for Mane, including selling the striker when the summer transfer window opens.

According to Sky in Germany, a sale is among several different sanctions being mooted by those in charge at Bayern. Other possible punishments apparently include a fine or a suspension.

The report adds that Mane, who was a late substitute in the game, travelled back from the airport in a private car after Bayern landed back in Germany. Sane supposedly took the team bus with the rest of his colleagues.

City were excellent on the night and stormed to a big win thanks to goals by Rodri, Bernardo Silva and Erling Haaland. It places Pep Guardiola’s side in a healthy position ahead of the second leg next week.

The Premier League title challengers already have one foot in the Champions league semi-final draw. Guardiola believes there is ‘something special’ about his side when they play at the Etihad Stadium, but insists Bayern will have the same home advantage in Germany for the reverse clash.

“I know what we have to do there, and we have to perform really well,” Guardiola said. “They are able to score one, two, three, I know it and the players know it. It was an incredible result but we have to do our game with a huge, huge personality because they are a top team.

“Here we have our chances. Here in this stadium we are something special this season. When we have the momentum, we are clinical.

“It is the same in Munich. I have been there for three years.  I know what it means and the people. But we are going there to score the goals and to try to win the game. To do that will be so difficult.”
