BCCI has banned these brands from sponsoring Team India
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has invited tenders from interested businesses for the lead sponsorship rights of the national cricket team. This move comes after ed-tech company BYJU’s decided to terminate their $35 million deal with the board, citing a reduction in branding expenditure as the reason.
The Indian cricket team’s jerseys have featured BYJU’s prominently as the lead sponsor across all three formats of the game. However, with BYJU’s stepping away, the BCCI has initiated the process to find a new lead sponsor. The board has released an Invitation to Tender (ITT) for interested parties to bid for this prestigious opportunity.
“Any interested party wishing to submit a bid is required to purchase the ITT. However, only those satisfying the eligibility criteria set out in the ITT and subject to the other terms and conditions set out therein, shall be eligible to bid. It is clarified that merely purchasing the ITT does not entitle any person to bid,” BCCI wrote in a statement.
The bid for sponsorship rights is expected to draw significant attention, especially with the upcoming ODI World Cup scheduled to take place in India later this year. The lead sponsor’s name will adorn the front of the Indian cricket team’s jersey, providing unparalleled visibility and exposure.
The BCCI recently announced its partnership with renowned sportswear giant Adidas, securing them as the official kit sponsor for the Indian cricket team. With the addition of the lead sponsor, both brand names will be prominently displayed on the team’s jerseys.
BCCI bans certain brands
Certain brand categories have been deemed prohibited for the sponsorship rights. These include athleisure and sportswear manufacturers, alcohol products, betting companies, cryptocurrency entities, real money gaming platforms (excluding fantasy sports gaming), tobacco brands, and those associated with offensive content such as pornography or public moral offence.
