BCCI invites bids for acquiring title sponsorship rights
After mopping up Rs 5621 crore from Women’s Premier League (WPL) media rights and franchises, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has released the Request for Proposal (RFP) for title sponsorship rights for the league.

The title sponsorship rights will be awarded for Seasons 2023-2027. The BCCI has invited bids from reputed entities for the sale of title sponsorship rights.

The RFP, which will be available for purchase till February 9, will be provided for a non-refundable fee of Rs 1 lakh plus GST.

The detailed terms and conditions governing the tender process include the eligibility requirements, the process for submissions of bids, rights, and obligations of the title sponsor.

In a statement, BCCI secretary Jay Shah said that only those entities that satisfy the eligibility criteria set out in the RFP will be eligible to bid.

“BCCI reserves the right to cancel or amend the bidding process at any stage in any manner without providing any reason,” he added.

Brand Finance India MD Ajimon Francis had earlier said the WPL will attract a lot of advertiser interest from women-centric brands.ITW Consulting Managing Partner Bhairav Shanth stated WPL will open up a lot of opportunities for brands considering the growth in viewership for women’s cricket.

Earlier, the BCCI sold the five WPL teams for a cumulative sum of Rs 4670 crore for a period of 10 years.

Adani Sportsline bagged Ahmedabad with the highest bid of Rs 1289 crore. Reliance Industries-owned Indiawin Sports bid Rs 913 crore for the Mumbai franchise.

Royal Challengers Sports won the Bengaluru franchise with Rs 901 crore. JSW GMR Cricket acquired the Delhi team for Rs 810 crore.

Capri Global Holdings was the winner of the Lucknow franchise with a bid of Rs 757 crore.

Prior to that, Viacom18 Media acquired the WPL media rights for seasons 2023 to 2027 for a cumulative figure of Rs 951 crore which translates to Rs 7.09 crore per match.
