Ben Affleck and Matt Damon Join Forces Again for a New Movie Based on Nike’s Attempts to Sign Michael Jordan

Childhood friends Matt Damon and Ben Affleck will team-up once again to work on a film based on sports apparel brand Nike’s attempts to get Basketball star Michael Jordan to sign with them.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Damon will play the movie’s leading role in former Nike executive Sonny Vaccarro, while Affleck will play the role of Nike co-founder Phil Knight. The movie will focus on the many courting attempts from the brand’s biggest executives to get Jordan, who had captivated the Basketball community during the 80s and the 90s.

Affleck will return to directorial duties for the first time since 2016, when he worked on Live by Night. Fans are excited to see what the movie will have in store for Ben Affleck, whose movie Argo even won Best Picture at the Oscars.

While Nike is currently a global powerhouse in the sports apparel and sneaker world, things were quite different in the 80s, as they lagged behind many of its competitors in the industry. The movie will particularly focus on Vaccarro’s ingenious methods to sign the basketball phenom during his rookie season with the Chicago Bulls in 1984.

The project will mostly pivot towards the lives of Vaccarro and Knight, and the movie will only feature Jordan as a mythical figure, as it doesn’t feature any roles for players to tie their sneaker laces in order to get a shot to play the sport’s GOAT.

Fans should be excited to see the chemistry between the two Boston natives, as they have worked together on films like Good Will Hunting, which gave an Academy Award to the two actors for the Best Original Screenplay in 1998. They even acted together recently in Ridley Scott’s historical action drama, The Last Duel.

The movie will be produced by Amazon Studios and Skydance Sports, and as of right now, we don’t have much details on the film’s release date, as its script is currently being reworked by both Affleck and Damon.
