Benn breaks silence with 10-word comment after new drug allegations

In a statement posted to his Instagram story, he wrote: “I hope the apology is as loud as the disrespect.”

According to the Daily Mail, an investigation has been launched into a suspected second failed drugs test for the same banned substance, clomifene. The fertility drug is primarily used to treat infertility in women who do not ovulate.

But when used by men it can act as a testosterone booster and drugs masker, banned in all mainstream sports. One eminent source close to the newspaper, claimed there had been a previous positive finding on the condition that they were granted anonymity, saying: “Yes. Earlier this year. Same stuff.”

Benn has received a lot of criticism from the boxing community following the news of his positive drugs test earlier this month. Promoter Hearn has stood by Benn and believes he wasn’t granted the same process that was afforded to Dillian Whyte before his fight with Oscar Rivas back in 2019.

In a recent interview, Hearn said: “We’ve been here before with Dillian Whyte. Everybody wrote him off. Everybody said his career was over, he was this, he was that. And it turned out he was completely innocent.

“What we wanted is we wanted an opportunity for Conor Benn to be heard and to get a fair hearing like Dillian Whyte got. Dillian Whyte got a hearing prior to the fight. That is why the fight took place. Conor Benn was never given the opportunity. At that point we put it into the hands of the commission and the commission decided we’re not going to sanction the fight.

“We could’ve gotten an injunction, we could’ve used another commission, these were routes we decided not to take. We respected the commission’s decisions. We don’t necessarily think that a lot of the process was right. And I don’t think Conor Benn was allowed due process in this instance.”
