BGMI and New State Mobile Developer Krafton Is Opening Its First Canadian AAA Game Studio

South Korean gaming giant Krafton has launched its latest AAA studio. The new studio sees the company expanding its operations to Canada for the first time.

The studio located in Montréal, Quebec opened its doors earlier this week. It will be led by Patrik Méthé, former director at Ubisoft Montréal, who is known for his work on franchises like Far Cry and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six.

Méthé brings in 20 years of experience in the gaming industry, and he will be joined by other veterans such as Benoit Frappier – Producer; Frédéric Duroc – Game Director; and Martin Paradis – Technology Director. At the moment, the studio has 12 employees, and Krafton aims to grow that number to 150 in the next three years.

When it comes to the development side of things, Krafton Montréal Studio will begin with the adaptation of the acclaimed Korean fantasy novel, The Bird That Drinks Tears by Yeong-do Lee.

“We share a common goal: to deliver the finest adaptation of the novel and to provide an exceptional experience to gamers,” said Méthé on adapting The Bird That Drinks. “As a fan of medieval fantasy since my teenage years, I’m excited to bring to life a fantasy masterpiece as an ambitious and memorable game.”

“We are thrilled to open our first Canadian AAA studio in Montréal, one of the world’s top cities for video game production,” said Krafton CEO CH Kim on the studio’s launch. “The local pool of creative and specialized talent is impressive, and we hope that many will join our team.”

With the studio expanding in the near future, there are a variety of job openings to look out for. You can learn more about them on the studio’s official website.
