BGMI Live-Stream Popularity Seems to Have Declined
Battlegrounds Mobile India, or BGMI has been unbanned in India. Content creators have also started streaming BGMI gameplay in their live-streams, however since the unban, these creators have not been able to garner the same number of viewers as they did when it launched originally in 2021.
According to a report by AFKGaming, BGMI’s return has recorded disappointing livestream viewership. The game was banned for a total of ten months in the country, and during that time the audiences were craving to play the game or watch their favourite content creators play it. However, since the game has come back, statistics indicate that the interest in BGMI seems to have died down.
Streamers like Mortal, Dynamo, Scout and Jonathan had around 200,000 concurrent peak viewers during the launch. In 2023, their peak hasn’t even hit the 100,000 mark. In terms of total views, these streamers recorded 4.8 million, 8.2 million, 4.3 million and 4.9 million, respectively, in 2021. In 2023, these numbers have died down to 1.2 million, 2.3 million, 1.1 million and 2.3 million, respectively.
Furthermore, the last BGMI Masters Series 2022 by Nodwin was able to gather a total 53.9 million views. Now, its latest comeback event, BGMI Rising, has been averaging around 51,000 viewers.
The reason for the fall in viewership is not known, but it is being speculated that during that 10-month period, many players have found taken interest in other games such New State and Valorant, to name a few. Moreover, BGMI came when the pandemic was on the rise, so more people were confined to their homes and were watching these livestreams. Do you think these viewership numbers will see an increase in the near future? Let us know in the comments if you are someone who used to watch BGMI content but have stopped now.
