Bing: After Google’s Bard, Microsoft Bing Chat goes ‘visual’ – Times of India
In a bid to better compete with Google, Microsoft is bringing an update, called using Visual Search in Chat, to Bing Chat. The company announced the ability to upload images and search-related content as a prompt to get desired results. Google launched a similar functionality at I/O earlier this year.
‘Search with images — not just words’
Visual Search in Chat will leverage OpenAI’s GPT-4 model and will let anyone upload images and search the web for related content. The company said that Visual Search in Chat is a part of the company’s work “to deliver new features and experiences in Bing Chat” to help people make the most of generative AI technology.
“Whether you’re travelling to a new city on vacation and asking about the architecture of a particular building or at home trying to come up with lunch ideas based on the contents of your fridge, upload the image into Bing Chat and use it to harness the web’s knowledge to get you answers,” the company said.
How does the feature work
Users can take a picture or use one any other on the internet and upload it to the input box. Prompt Bing to tell you about it, and the chatbot can understand the context of an image, interpret it and answer questions about it.
Microsoft used an example of a flowchart image. An image of a flowchart is uploaded and users ask Bing to write a code on the basis of the picture. The chatbot wrote a code after analysing the uploaded image.
Visual Search in Chat is beginning to roll out now via desktop and the Bing mobile app. The company is also working to bring this to Bing Chat Enterprise.
Secure version of Bing
Microsoft is also making a more secure version of its Bing search engine available immediately to businesses, aiming to address their data-protection concerns.
It also announced Bing Chat Enterprise, a chatbot in its search engine particularly designed for businesses. The enterprise version will not view or save user data to train the technology. An employee would have to log in with work credentials to gain the protections.
