Bing: Microsoft has an advisory for new Bing users – Times of India

Microsoft Bing with new AI capabilities is now available for live preview. It is powered by an upgraded language model by OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT AI chatbot. While the company highlighted that the new AI language model is better than ChatGPT, it still is under cooked and Microsoft is relying on ‘critical feedback’ to improve the service over time.
OpenAI’s new AI language model “takes key learnings and advancements from ChatGPT and GPT-3.5 – and it is even faster, more accurate and more capable”, Microsoft said while opening the doors for a limited preview at Bing.com.

In the FAQs for the new Bing, Microsoft talks about the factual nature of its responses. The company says that the new Bing will search for answers from reliable sources and will annotate the source but it can make mistakes.
“Bing aims to base all its responses on reliable sources – but AI can make mistakes, and third party content on the internet may not always be accurate or reliable. Bing will sometimes misrepresent the information it finds, and you may see responses that sound convincing but are incomplete, inaccurate, or inappropriate,” Microsoft said.
“Use your own judgement and double check the facts before making decisions or taking action based on Bing’s responses,” the company advises.
Responsible AI innovation
Microsoft highlighted that it is committed to develop responsible AI and Bing is being developed in accordance with the company’s AI principles.

“While Bing works to avoid sharing unexpected offensive content in search results and has taken steps to prevent its chat features from engaging on potentially harmful topics, you may still see unexpected results. We’re constantly working to improve our technology in preventing harmful content,” Microsoft says.
“Our teams are working to address issues such as misinformation and disinformation, content blocking, data safety and preventing the promotion of harmful or discriminatory content in line with our AI principles,” the company said.
How to share feedback
Those who witness any offensive content can share their feedback or report a concern by opening the menu at the top right corner of a response, and then clicking the flag icon.
Microsoft says it will use the ‘critical feedback’ to improve the AI models.
It is to be noted that the Bing search engine is available in a limited preview at Bing.com and will be expanded to millions soon. “We’re going to scale the preview to millions in the coming weeks. A mobile experience will also be in preview soon,” Microsoft announced.
