Black Caps edge close to victory
New Zealand have snared three Sri Lanakan wickets in the opening session of day four of second cricket test in Wellington, as they continue their quest for victory at the Basin Reserve.
The tourists are 249 for five at lunch, following-on in their second innings and still 167 in arrears after New Zealand posted 580 for four declared in their first innings.
Sri Lanka started the day at 113 for two, still 303 runs behind and quickly lost Kusal Mendis (50) without adding to the overnight total while Angelo Mathews (2) followed shortly afterwards, leaving the tourists 116 for four.
Pace bowlers Matt Henry and Blair Tickner picked up those two wickets.
But Dinesh Chandimal and Dhanajaya de Silva then built a stubborn fifth partnership of 126, only for Chandimal to be dismissed for 62 a few minutes before lunch when he top edged a short delivery from Tickner to be caught by a diving Doug Bracewell at fine leg.
The Black Caps lead the two test series one nil.
