Boohoo slammed for ‘sexist’ Cristiano Ronaldo tweet after Man Utd exit

Boohoo have been slammed by fans for a ‘sexist’ tweet suggesting women no longer need to watch football after Cristiano Ronaldo departure from Manchester United. The World Cup star has left the Red Devils by mutual consent in the aftermath of his tell-all interview with Piers Morgan.

The clothing company tweeted: “No need to watch the football now girlies xxxx” in reaction to an original post announcing he had left United with immediate effect. The message brought a furious response from fans who criticised boohoo for being ‘sexist’.

@SarahMBreslin wrote: “You managed to be both heteronormative and sexist, bravo.” While @natashaeveritt7 responded: “Delete this hun x.”

@amyclement94 said: “Boohoo you’ve had a mare with this! Still time to delete.” Similarly, @LauraHartley03 wrote: “Boohoo did a Booboo.” And @rebekkarnold replied: “Please don’t ever comment on football again.”

While @alimullaley said: “Other than we just like watching the actual football, of course.” And Chelsea Women Supporters Group, @ChelseaWomenSG, added: “We will carry on watching the footy xxxx.”

In his own statement, Ronaldo stressed his love for the club but suggested it was a good time for him to try something else.

He said: “Following conversations with Manchester United we have mutually agreed to end our contract early.

“I love Manchester United and I love the fans, that will never ever change. However, it feels like the right time for me to seek a new challenge.

“I wish the team every success for the remainder of the season and for the future.”
