Boris Becker ‘ridiculous’ quip has BBC audience switch off Wimbledon ‘Crossed the line’

Tennis great Boris Becker has caused Wimbledon fans to turn away from BBC coverage of the tournament after a “ridiculous” quip sparked a social media backlash. Becker was commentating on the center court clash between Novak Djokovic and Marton Fucsovics on BBC 1 when the German made a controversial remark about the Hungarian player’s girlfriend. The comments sparked a backlash from viewers over “sexism” while some queried whether Becker’s comments had “crossed the line.”

Co-commentator John Inverdale had just identified Fucsovics’ girlfriend Anett Böszörményi after she was framed by the camera when Beker noted Hungarian women are the “best-looking women.”

“Why are we allowing John Inverdale and Boris Becker to talk about the attractiveness of Marton Fucsovics’ partner,” wrote one Wimbledon fan.

Elsewhere another penned: “Boris Becker and John Inverdale talking about Hungarian women being the best looking women in world during Novak Djokovic v Marton Fucsovics isn’t really the analysis I was expecting on Wimbledon Centre Court.”

Someone else asked: “Is that really a crime?

“His joke about ‘Annette’ was pretty funny. Boris crossed the line. Why he is even on the BBC I do not know.”
