Brazil legend Pele ‘hospitalised with decompensated heart failure’

Brazil icon Pele is in hospital after reportedly suffering from swelling all over his body and decompensated heart failure as the football legend continues his concerning health battle. The 82-year-old is believed to have been admitted into hospital on Tuesday night where he currently remains alongside specialised doctors, who are working to improve his condition.

Pele’s daughter Kely Nascimento has since taken to Instagram to provide an update on her father’s situation.

“Lots of alarm in the media today concerning my dad’s health. He is in the hospital regulating medication,” Nascimento wrote. “There is no emergency or new dire prediction. I will be there for New Years and promise to post some pictures.”

The legendary striker had a tumour removed from his colon back in September 2021 and has since been in and out of hospital to receive further treatment.

Pele’s wife Marcia Aoki is said to have raised the alarm when she noticed swelling all over his body.

According to ESPN Brazil, doctors caring for Pepe have confirmed the condition of anasarca (generalized swelling), an edemigemic syndrome (generalized edema) and even decompensated heart failure.

The report also states that the medical team have flagged that the chemotherapy carried out by doctors in recent months has not been received positively by Pele’s organs.

At the start of the year in January, Pele spent time in hospital receiving cancer treatment before been discharged after two days.

Pele is reportedly due to undergo further testing on Wednesday as doctors seek to get to the bottom of his latest health scare.

It’s understood that Pele was in a state of mental disorientation upon arrival at the hospital.

The report also sadly notes that Pele struggles to feed himself.

His wife and caregiver are still believed to be with him at the hospital as they await the results of his tests.

It is currently unclear when Pele could be discharged from hospital.
