Following months of yearning by lakhs of gamers across India, the wait is finally over. Krafton India has just shared the launch date of Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) for all the fans across the country. According to the announcement, the game will be available for playing on Monday, May 29, 2023. In addition, the game is now available for download on Android devices. The company revealed that the game will be available for download and playing for iOS users on May 29 only.

Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) launch date out, now available for download on Android

This major development comes just days after Krafton India announced that the Indian government had finally lifted the ban on BGMI. Since then, it has been a game of waiting, as players checked Krafton and BGMI social accounts for any news around availability of the game.

Following the unban, the game already made its way to the Google Play Store on select devices. This allowed several players to download the game on their devices. However, the servers for BGMI remained unactive, as Krafton India urged fans to wait. Now, the latest announcement has made this official.

Krafton India CEO, Sean Hyunil Sohn shared a statement as part of the announcement celebrating the relaunch and thanking BGMI fans. Here is what Sohn said:

We are thrilled to announce that BATTLEGROUNDS MOBILE INDIA is now available for preload. We are consistently striving to deliver a smooth gameplay experience to our users and are excited to welcome everyone back.

We once again, thank the authorities and our users for their continued support as we look forward to elevating the gaming experience for our community in India. See you on the battlegrounds!

BGMI Android download size details

BGMI fans can now head to the Google Play Store listing and download the 791MB game on their smartphones. Gamers who had already downloaded the game also get a 380MB update through the Play Store.

All players also get about 7MB update to internal files and two resource packs to download. The “Low-spec Resource Pack” with 641.1MB size is likely aimed at entry level and budget smartphones and the “HD Resource Pack” with 1,079.5 MB size is possibly aimed at mid to high-end smartphones.

Krafton also revealed that it will “stagger the availability and playability of BGMI” as it prepares for “an overwhelming number of downloads”. This means that not everyone will be able to automatically download and updates. IGN India has reached out to Krafton India for clarification.

Right after the game first surfaced on Android last week, Krafton told IGN India that it has been the testing the game on closed servers.

Time-limited availability of the game and more

BGMI was originally banned by the government due to national security concerns surrounding the title. Despite the unban, the game isn’t out of the clear just yet, as the government has confirmed that BGMI is available as part of a three month limited trial run.

The time-limited run comes with a set of new restrictions from the government due to concerns about user data privacy, addiction and user harm, as noted by Mr, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, Union Minister of State for Electronics & Technology. In the end, it will be interesting to see how these rules will impact the overall experience of playing BGMI.

So, what are you waiting for? Get ready to return to the Battlegrounds once again, as you compete for those elusive Winner Winner Chicken Dinners.
