Bryan Mbeumo has been ridiculed on social media for his poor attempt at a drive in Brentford’s clash with Tottenham on Boxing Day. Brentford had been in full control against a lacklustre Tottenham side with goals from Vitaly Janelt and Ivan Toney either side of half-time giving them a two-goal lead.
Harry Kane then brought Spurs back into the match with a neat header past David Raya just after the hour mark to spark his side into life. And they found the equaliser just minutes later through Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg with both sides then gunning for the victory.
Matt Doherty tried to win his side a penalty soon after Hojbjerg’s goal, dramatically falling to the ground after feeling some contact from Mathias Jorgensen. The Brentford defender reacted furiously to Doherty’s dive, confronting the Tottenham star and pointing a finger in his face.
The referee waved the incident away with little protest from Doherty while the Spurs full-back escaped a booking. But Mbeumo couldn’t avoid going in the referee’s book for his attempt at winning Brentford a penalty just seconds later.
The Cameroon international was racing into the box when he pushed the ball past Fraser Forster before falling to the ground in a heap. The referee was quick to take out a yellow card for Mbeumo and replays quickly showed just how bad his simulation was.
The 23-year-old was seen diving straight into the air with Forster nowhere near the Brentford star. And he was soon ridiculed on social media with some calling it the worst dive they’ve ever seen in the Premier League.
