Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh: Already questioned twice by police, ready to face further questioning | More sports News – Times of India

NEW DELHI: The Wrestling Federation of India’s (WFI) former president Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh said here on Tuesday that he was ready to face further questioning by Delhi police over allegations of sexual harassment against him.
Singh, who arrived at his official bungalow here late on Monday night, told TOI that he has already been questioned twice – both six-hour sessions – at the Connaught Place police station, where two separate FIRs – including one under the POCSO act – have been registered against him by the wrestlers.
Reiterating that he has done nothing wrong, Singh said, “I have come to Delhi on a personal visit. I am very much available here at my official accommodation. Contrary to media reports, I have not been summoned by the police for another round of questioning. I have no information. But if the police want to grill me further, I am ready to face the investigative agencies.”
Singh also clarified that no police team from Delhi visited his stronghold of Gonda district to question his personal staff and supporters on Tuesday. “The police team from Delhi visited both Lucknow and Gonda on June 4 (to question his close associates). Nothing has happened today,” he informed.
According to sources, the Delhi police personnel visited both places to corroborate the claim of one of the female wrestlers that she was allegedly sexually harassed by Singh at his official residence – which also doubled up as the federation office – in Delhi on certain dates.
The BJP strongman has said he was in Lucknow and Gonda on the given dates. The wrestler is among the six female grapplers who have filed an FIR against Singh.
“The wrestler has mentioned two dates of October 16 and 17 in the year 2017 when she was allegedly harassed by Singh at the WFI office. On October 16, Singh was present in Lucknow the whole day overseeing a selection trial while on October 17, he was visiting his constituency in Gonda to attend jan-sabhas (public gatherings),” the source added.
Wrestlers give call for mahapanchayat on June 11
The protesting wrestlers, led by Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat and Sakshee Malikkh, will hold a mahapanchayat – a first to be organised by them – on coming Sunday (June 11) either in Rajasthan or Punjab.
“The venue will be decided in a day or two. The chances are high that it could either be Alwar or Jaipur in Rajasthan. But a venue in Punjab can’t be ruled out. The wrestlers will make the announcement soon. All the protesting wrestlers will be attending it and calls will be extended to khap organisations and kisan unions across the country to join them in their fight for justice,” a close associate of wrestlers told TOI.
On Wednesday, a panchayat will be held in Haryana’s Balali village – a stronghold of Phogat sisters – to offer moral support to the wrestlers.
