Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 Sets New Franchise Record by Raking in $800 Million in 3 Days; Activision disables Family Sharing on Steam and more

Call of Duty fans anticipated the waves that Modern Warfare 2 would create waves in the industry with its arrival. However, no one expected it to be at this level. According to the latest report by Business Wire, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 had a record-breaking opening weekend, earning more than $800 million in ‘sell through’ within the first three days. It has also beat all the opening weekends for the biggest films of 2022, raking in more than Top Gun: Maverick and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness combined.

It is also the number one Call of Duty launch of all time. To put things into context, the earlier records were as follows; Modern Warfare 2 (2009) earned $550 million in the first 5 days. Modern Warfare 3 from 2011 earned $775 million in the first 5 days. Then Modern Warfare from 2019 broke all records by earning more than $600 million in the first 3 days and now Modern Warfare 2 from 2022 stands at the top spot with more than $800 million in earnings in just the first 3 days.

Here’s what Bobby Kotick, CEO at Activision Blizzard and Johanna Faries, General Manager of Call of Duty had to say about the new milestone they have achieved.

Bobby Kotick:

“Thank you to our talented team that has created magic through extraordinary artistry and technology, and to the global community of players who find joy and connection through Call of Duty. This milestone belongs to them.”

Johanna Faries:

“Thank you, Call of Duty players, for making Modern Warfare II’s launch one for the record books as well as the highest grossing entertainment opening of the year. It is our honor and privilege to deliver such a historic launch weekend for the best fans in the world. As amazing as this opening has been, Call of Duty has much more in store. An unprecedented level of support for the Modern Warfare universe is on the horizon and Warzone 2.0’s launch is right around the corner. It’s an incredible time for the franchise.”

Besides, the Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 false ban spree continues, with loads of players facing problems due to this issue. One player decided to take matters in their own hands after being banned twice from two different accounts. Spotted by PC Gamer in a now deleted Reddit post, the player entailed his entire story of how he physically went to his Activision office to let them know about his complaints.

It seems though the player could not get past the security guard as the guard did not allow him to proceed and meet any of the Activision employees personally. This practice is not appreciated by anyone, and players should refrain from directly approaching the game developers. They have no part in the banning and are working towards finding a solution, harassing them will only make matters worse.

Moreover, Santa Seña Border Crossing map in Modern Warfare 2 has become a problem for many players. According to the layout, the map is just one straight line and the players engage in battle on an expressway that consists of loads of cars. The only issue is that these cars explode after enough damage, which can cause many deaths in the game. One player suffered the wrath of this map and has posted his experience on Twitter, check it out below:
