It’s worth remembering there’s just one edition of the game for Xbox consoles, since this’ll work across all current console generations – Xbox One, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X. Playstation is a little more complicated, so you’ll need to make sure you add the correct version for your console to your shopping basket.

Despite some early rumours to the contrary, Xbox Game Pass subscribers will still need to preorder Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard King, the behemoth firm behind franchises like Call of Duty, Diablo, World of Warcraft, and Candy Crush has finally been approved by the UK’s Competitions and Markets Authority – the final regulatory hurdle the deal needed to clear. It finalises a deal that has been over 18 months in the making.

But for those who hoped the merger would see a huge slate of Activision Blizzard games dropping on Xbox Game Pass in the coming days, there’s bad news. While it seems Microsoft does plan to stock-up its Netflix-like subscription service for players on Xbox consoles, PC, and mobile devices with Activision Blizzard games …the latest blockbuster titles won’t be arriving anytime soon.

In a tweet, Activision told fans: “While we do not have plans to put Modern Warfare III or Diablo IV into Game Pass this year, once the deal closes, we expect to start working with Xbox to bring our titles to more players around the world. And we anticipate that we would begin adding games into Game Pass sometime in the course of next year.”

Game Pass starts from £7.99 on PC. Game Pass Ultimate includes access to the full library of games on consoles and PC, with the ability to download or stream blockbuster games. It also bundles access to all titles included with an EA Play membership as well as online multiplayer, previously known as Xbox Live.

If you decide to preorder Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, you’ll gain access to the Modern Warfare 3 Beta, with the beta period beginning in early access for Xbox and PC players on Thursday October 12 and continues until Monday October 16, 2023.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 is available from a huge number of retailers, including the likes of Game, Amazon UK, and Argos. Digital download codes can also be purchased, as well as direct from your favourite consoles’ built-in store.
